Obama wins Powell endorsement and massive cash haul (http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5jQAS5hicKh6Ps1XKnzKtRedlfWug)
FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina (AFP) — Democrat Barack Obama won the coveted endorsement of former secretary of state Colin Powell Sunday as he entered the final fortnight before election day flush with cash to unleash against Republican John McCain.
The Illinois senator, who is riding high in the polls ahead of the November 4 election, more than doubled his fundraising record with a mammoth September haul of more than 150 million dollars, aides said.
The extravaganza of giving enabled Obama to demolish his previous one-month record of 66 million dollars in August, which had already set him fair to hit McCain hard with a nationwide advertising blitz in the closing stages.
The Republican Powell, on NBC program "Meet the Press," said Obama had "met the standard" to be commander-in-chief "because of his ability to inspire" Americans of all ages and ethnic and political stripes.
"I think he would be a transformational president. For that reason I will be voting for Senator Barack Obama," said Powell, who was the first African-American to serve as chairman of the joint chiefs of staff.
Should the mixed-race Obama win in just over two weeks, "all Americans should be proud, not just African-Americans," he added.
"It would not just electrify our country, it would electrify the world."

It was a great endorsement. Powell gave clear reasons why he supports Obama, so that the Republicans cant twist his words. I have more respect for Powell now, he wants America to move forward not backwards.

I thought of Powell as a sucker in the 90's, but grew to have alot of respect for the man. After my time in the military it was clear to me how the game is played. When he used to speak against his own party for Black folks he really won me over. Now what I hear about his son is a different issue.

There are sooo many things I want to say about this election. I'm not a great writer but I do pay attention to punctuation.
Mr. Colin Powell. General Powell, He is the essence of what I believe.
This is my voice. This is my view. Thank you General for articulating how I feel 100%
I shit you not. This is EXACTLY how I feel.

I'm not surprised...I saw this coming cuz the news was talking about it all week....
So it's all basically over for McCain......I'm gonna be honest with you guys....I DID liked McCain., even thou he is republican he wasn't a extreme right wing nut job...there was a time that if McCain were elected to be president, i wouldn't be that mad....but now McCain is trying to appeal to the ultra conservatives that he not being himself.....all this negitive attacks n shit is hurting his campaign...and his VP pick of Palin is such a fuck right wing nut job that people are starting listen to her than McCain...and actually spreading hate!!
This is a mistake by McCain and he knows it...

I'm with you on that one Mr Legacy...I did like McCain myself, and wouldn't of mind if he was president..but that Sarah Palin...MY GOD..I know McCain isn't a dumb man...I seriously think that the republican national comittee suckered him into choosing her, to get some pity votes from women..
As for Powell endorsing Obama...I think its a great thing, he spoke thruthfully..Obama really has inspired Americans...Powell is a straightfoward guy, and I'm glad that he isn't afraid to side with the Democrats.

There are a lot of people who feel the same way you do, and no disrspect, but I think that's unfortunate because I feel like they are voting based on personality and not substance.
McCain is a Republican, a Reagan Republican at that who is against Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Public Assistance, Food Stamps, Unemployment, Head Start, Veterans Benefits, the G.I Bill, etc - all the social programs that the poor, working class and middle class Americans need and use.
He voted AGAINST making Martin Luther King a national holiday -TWICE(!!!) and has historically been against most civil rights legislation.
He's for tax cuts for the rich and calls tax cuts for the poor "socialism", even as he sits like Thurston Howell the 3rd/Mr. Magoo on a $150 million dollar fortune with his 8 homes, 13 cars and private jet.
And yet there are those of us out there who don't read up on these characters and just say "He's wasn't in lockstep with the Republican party ten years ago. He was a maverick! I like that about him." and think about voting for him.
We better look at what people do and check up on their record to see what they're about, people.
And Apollo - stop watching Fox News! lol That shit is fucking rotting your brain!

i dont know how reagan got a bad name...I LOVE REAGAN...
before reagan this country was heading towards shit....anyone remember the late 70's nyc, garbage piling up in the streets police force and fire dept being cut back, infrastructure failing, city on the verge of financial collapse....and that was just nyc....nationally inflation was OFF THE FUCKING CHART.....unemployment was OVER 10 FUCKING PERCENT....10 FUCKING PERCENT.....thats 1 out of 10 working people out of work, that shit might fly in argentina or brazil but 1 out of 10 people is unacceptable HERE.
all that govt. assistance is fine if your injured or "shit happens" but spending GENERATIONS on it and letting it become a LIFESTYLE? gimme a fucking break.....this country was turning into a shit hole.its fine if you NEVER intend to be anything more.it got so bad in the bronx that people had to BURN their buildings down to be moved into the PROJECTS....remember the world series in '77,probably not, because you were mesmerized by an entire borough burning down in the background.
and what turned it around was good ole TRICKLE DOWN....nothing else works on the grand scale of a country this big
you want trickle up? look at latin america.trickle up gets you an economy based on prostitution, colmadas, and betting parlors....you know like the bronx circa 1980
if the republicans were more like reagan they'd have more support today.....but fuck them and fuck the democrats....they are BOTH bought and paid for....your not voting for either of them or mccain or obama....all your voting for are 1 of 2 people who are owned by lobbying firms like akin gump and patton boggs......THATS WHO RUNS OUR COUNTRY....LOBBYING FIRMS,and they own BOTH of your candidates and BOTH of your bullshit "parties"
they cant lose and you aint gonna win
in 1968 there were 60 lobbyists in washington,by the late 80's there were about 8000.....now there are 35,000 of these shit bags "buying" politicians and legislature for every interest from china, big oil, parmaceuticals,to bullshit like wooden arrow manufacturers......the only thing not represented there are the american people.
whe shouldnt be supporting political parties we should be hiring lobbying firms.

FUCK REAGAN......he never had a good name with anybody that I know. You think Reagan cleaned America up? All he did was made it really easy to get dope and very easy for minorites to go to jail for selling that same dope. You must be out of touch with common people, because that trickle down shit aint gonna work. Are we supposed to wait until the rich get richer! Nobody really likes the political system that we have thats why its time for change.

i am common people,it doesnt get more common than me.and thats all im in touch with.
you think reagan made it easy to get dope?...i guess it had nothing to do with the moncados, ochoas,or escobar.dont make me laugh...with that cheap urban legend bullshit.
ive been hearing dumb muthafuckas who couldnt even successfully sell dope to junkies say the cia created the cocaine market...if you believe that then youll beleive anything.people have been saying that crap for 30 years...gimme a break if the cia sold coke it was in europe where the profit margin is higher.....and if they peddled drugs in the u.s. then it was junk.
what do you mean trickle down WONT work....it already worked.do you remember what the fuck our cities looked like in 1980?how many people do you know in 2008 that heat their apartments with the fucking oven.......do you remember the unemployment in 1980,what was that? the good old days.
try to get a parking spot in the poorest neighborhoods in nyc....you cant, everybody has a car,and most families have 2.....compliments of reagan.
i dont know where the fuck your from but if its so goddamn terrible you should take yourself to new york, because things are a HELLUVA LOT better then they were before reagan.
and if you want to sell dope with out being hassled theres no better place....you have to practically BEG to go jail here.you have to make yourself a public disaster, such that YOUR NEIGHBORS DEMAND the cops come lock your ass up....or be a complete fucking moron.

Actually it is true that CIA run dope but I don't blame shit on the gov. It is the way of man, those in power will seek to keep it and those without will seek to take it, but we are getting off the point here. I would have voted for Colin Powell back in the day. A very intelligent and articulate man. Strong and he had a way with people. A pity he never ran. This is a great endorsement for Obama, it comes at the right time as well.

colin powell navigates the mine field of bullshit that is washington with more honor than anyone there.and regardless of experience theres NO ONE else in that shithole that id prefer to be my president.
but unfortunately he doesnt suck enough dick to receive the support of either party.
and before anyone blasts the man let me just defend him by saying real time politics is never as cut and dry as the review of it is years later.wich is something us armchair quarterbacks tend to forget .the mans truly a class act.the type of guy you can have respect for even if you dont agree with his position.and thats a quality we havent seen in a president or candidate for years.

Check this out mrpink, you seem to think that this is the United States of New York or some bullshit. I live in America. Am I less American because I dont live in NY? The point I was trying to make is that its 2008 and the same old shit will lead to the same old results. Who wants to sell dope dummy? The problem I have with that trickle down bullshit is how long will it take?, whats in it for the common person (people with no cars)? And why not start at the bottom and go up, it cant be much worse than it is now. I should call Nancy because I didnt get my car yet!

check this out teclar
ny is a nice barometer we have the richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor, and everything in between.and i cant speak about the rest of the country because ive never been there.and unlike you i dont speak on things i dont have knowledge of.....so forgive me for not having lived in all 50 states.
whats in trickle down for people without cars is the opportunity to work and buy a car or whatever you might want.i already told you 1 OUT OF 10 WORKING PEOPLE....WERENT WORKING WHEN REAGAN GOT IN THE OFFICE.thats not 10% of ny,that was 10% of the entire country.and i assumed that if ny was falling down, then the rest of the country wasnt much better off.but apparently in the utopia where you live, there are no cars or people out of work.
who do you think created the businesses that employed those millions of people....was it the business owners who created employment by starting and expanding businesses .....or was it the common man who cant even afford a car for HIMSELF....much less anything thats going to benefit any other working man and his family.
why not start at the bottom????with what...they just gave economic stimulus checks to every person in the fucking country.....6 months later there was an economic collapse.what do you want...for the govt to send everyone $10000,$100000....how much, and wheres that money gonna come from?the taxes of working people.....or are they gonna print it....so that whats in our pockets is watered down.
i EARNED my money, and these assholes are wasting it just fine without your idea...that was just proven over the last 6 months to be completely innefectual.
im waiting for a sound economic plan....and your talking about being thrown a fucking bone.
i think you have the u.s. confused with cuba, keep waiting for the govt to buy you a car,or a house or whatever the fuck you think you should get......let me know how that works out for you.

The problem with New Yorkers is that they think New York is the only place that matters. The rest of the U.S. is a part of this thing also, you seem to think that you are poor or something, all I want is for the poor people in country to get a fair shake, why keep giving rich people all the breaks? Thats not American! You praised Reagan like he saved the day or something. I dont want the government to buy me anything, and dont twist my words to fit your agenda, all I want is some new tactics besides give to the rich and everybody else just hold on until we make some money first.

we are now 30 years after trickle down, it has been perverted and manipulated.but make no mistakes...it ended 10% national unemployment.
this is the concept:
99% of everyone i know works for "SOMONE ELSE"(AKA-the rich guy).if the rich guy isnt allowed to make money, then he goes to india or china or ireland where they are BEGGING HIM to come and get rich.so he goes there and indian unemploment goes down and american goes up.
the same person is complaining that the rich get richer....but in the very next breath will complain that all our jobs are being outsourced to other countries.
well wich is it?....wich do you want? your only logically allowed to be upset over one of those concepts...not both.they are NOT mutually exclusive, the are directly related.

I believe we should levy a tariff on other countries to offset the outsourcing of U.S. jobs. Make it so the Big Companies see it less attractive to move businesses over seas. Then do a tax cut on company that employ a certain amount of employees in the U.S. On top of govt. monitoring of priced goods so they don't price gouge and pocket the amount. This in theory and hope will drive cost down and create more U.S jobs.
But enough of this. We are way off topic, please create another thread if you guys wish to continue. No more Hijacking this thread. I mean that.

Dont put words in my mouth pinkdude, I simply want something that shows the people who are hurting the most, that the government is willing to help us out also. Thirty years after that trickle down bullshit where are we? We need something better. Thirty years from now we dont want our kids and grandkids having these same problems. The future is now. PEACE!

I would simply like to say that this (http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2004/sep/12/Iraqandthemedia.politicsphilosophyandsociety) was when I started like Powell again. Things going down now is just icing on the cake.
