Is It Possible To Run A Website Using The Mac Mini Server

Hey wassup Morpheus i got a question for you and anyone that thinks they can help. I wanna run my own adult website and I was wondering if i could get the apple mac mini with snow leopard server and use that as my server for my website. Is that possible to do or would it better to find a hosting site and server that is offered from another company?

Assuming you've got reasonably fast bandwidth, you can run a server off of your computer, but that would only be good for a handful of people.

For any significant number, you're going to need your own hosted server. Used to be that many hosting companies didn't allow adult content, so the ones that did charged a fortune. But since the economy plummeted many "Rated PG" hosting companies have changed their policies and now there are tons of them that service adult content providers, so you can now get a decent start up server for anywhere from $50 - $99 a month.

I have a dedicated server through 1&1 Hosting and I only pay $99 a month. But then again, I don't do any adult stuff and I'm not sure they allow adult content, but they might. Give them a look. Also StartLogic has pretty sweet deals as well.

You can...but if your hosting a lot of people like Morph said, its no use. Your hard drive will die easily, as everyone is trying to access content from it at a constant.

They do have those new Solid-State drives...which are ideal for servers (because of no moving parts)...but their a bit pricey right now.

The bandwidth is the main issue and even if you can get a business class connection from your home, it's still not enough. Plus I'm sure hey don't permit you to host servers on your connection.
